THE TAM HOUSE STORY
A Message to Our Social Agency Partners from Our Manager
The first thing I want to communicate is this: I'd be delighted to have you come and visit Tam House AND I'm also glad to come and give a presentation about Tam House at your agency.
We are looking to serve low income, independent seniors. I am fond of saying that Tam House is an incredibly fabulous place for the right person, but not every person.
It is NOT for someone who needs any kind of care. It is for independent seniors who can thrive in an environment where 10 people are working to live in community. Everyone carries their weight. Some people clean up after dinner, some people clean up after dinner, some people clean the living room, some people garden. There
Some of our Residents
are lots of ways to do it but everyone is responsible to make sure that the work of a household gets done. But more than that, everyone is in their own way, responsible for the community itself. We are looking for people who will thrive in that environment.
This page is very similar to the "Prospective Resident" page. It has good basic information and links to all the documents someone needs to apply.
Our application process is pretty extensive – just click on resident criteria and application tab, (or go to the bottom of this page). We do not keep a waiting list. I keep a list of social agencies and potential residents who would like to be informed when a vacancy comes open. I send out an e-mail to let people know. We then take in applications for a few weeks before deciding who to interview. We are always looking for the right fit at the right time in the house with the vacancy. If you believe you have someone who "fits" by all means let us know! If you're wondering, feel free to give me a call and we'll talk it over. but if you would like to be informed when a place opens up, just send me your e-mail and I’ll let you know. In the mean time, if you have any questions please feel free to let me know.
Thanks for checking us out. Please call any time.

Food at Tam House
Our Cook and Handyman, Martin Michel, prepares 6 dinners a week in the Tam One kitchen and purchases basic (light) breakfast foods, coffee and tea for our residents.
Tam House is based on the concept of “community.” We don’t want to be just a boarding house. And for this reason, dinner time is not just about food it’s about communication, sharing, and relationships. We're often asked, "Do I have to be at dinner every night?" No, of course not. Our residents are independent seniors and they have active lives. But we also do not want our homes to be just a place to sleep. Residents are asked to join Tam House with the intention of spending a good portion of their dinners together. And most are very happy to do so, as Martin is an excellent cook who prepares fresh, healthy and delicious meals.
