A Message to Our Social Agency Partners from Our Manager

The first thing we want to communicate is this: We'd be delighted to have you come and visit Tam House AND we would also be happy to come and give a presentation about Tam House at your agency.

Our mission is to serve single seniors, men and women, age 62 and over. We are fond of saying that Tam House is an incredibly fabulous place for the right person, but not every person.

It is NOT for someone who needs any kind of care. We are not a licensed care facility. It is for seniors who can thrive in an environment where 10 people can be themselves and freely engage with their fellow residents, as they feel comfortable. Everyone carries their weight. Some people clean up after dinner, some people set the table for meals, some people clean the living room, some people garden.

Some of our Residents

There are lots of ways to do it but everyone is responsible to make sure that the work of a household gets done.  We are looking for people who will thrive in that environment.

This page is very similar to the "Prospective Resident" page. It has good basic information and links to all the documents someone needs to apply.

Our application process is pretty extensive – just click on resident criteria and application tab, (or go to the bottom of this page). We do not keep a waiting list. We keep a list of social agencies and potential residents who would like to be informed when a vacancy comes open and we send out an e-mail to let people know. We then take in applications for a few weeks before deciding who to interview. We are always looking for the right fit at the right time in the house with the vacancy. If you believe you have someone who "fits" by all means let us know! If you're wondering, feel free to give us a call and we'll talk it over.  But if you would like to be informed when a place opens up, just send us your e-mail and we'll let you know. In the mean time, if you have any questions please feel free to let us know.

Thanks for checking us out. Please call any time.

Sincerely,

The Board and House Manager, Tam House

Food at Tam House

Our Chef and Handyman, Martin Michel, prepares 5 dinners a week in the Tam One kitchen and purchases basic (light) breakfast foods, coffee and tea for our residents.

Tam House is based on the concept of “community.” We don’t want to be just a boarding house. And for this reason, dinner time is not just about food it’s about communication, sharing, and relationships. We're often asked, "Do I have to be at dinner every night?" No, of course not. Our residents are independent seniors and they have active lives. But we also do not want our homes to be just a place to sleep. Residents are asked to join Tam House with the intention of spending a good portion of their dinners together. And most are very happy to do so, as Martin is an excellent cook who prepares fresh, healthy and delicious meals.
